PLANETARIUM CLOSED FOR THANKSGIVING

Planetarium Show Descriptions:

Nine Planets and Counting: How many planets are there? This porgram presents the continuing debate in an open-ended manner. The show includes a tour of the Solar System.

Our new show, Two Small Pieces of Glass, puts you in the middle of a modern star party. Discover the wonders that even a small amateur telescope can reveal and learn about the scientists that made such views possible.

Skies Over Southwest Florida is a live presentation about the night sky. Audiences learn about the moon, planets, stars, and other celestial objects visible in the evening sky each week.

Our closest celestial “neighbor,” the Moon, will be the focus of Observing the Moon along with a tour of the current night sky constellations and planets. If you just want to learn how and why the moon appears as it does in the night sky throughout a month, or how to become a more serious lunar observer, then this presentation is for you. Learn about “seas,” craters, mountains, and rays as well as how to become an avid lunar observer. This live sky talk is given by Astronomy Specialist and NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Carol Stewart.

LRO and LCROSS: On October 9th, the LCROSS (Lunar Crater Observation Sensing Satellite) and its Centaur booster rocket impacted crater Cabeus at the South Pole of the Moon. Join us to learn what this LRO (Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter) mission was all about and see the resulting images from the impact. Did scientists find what they expected? Come find out! We’ll also take a tour of the current night sky constellations and planets. This live sky talk is given by Astronomy Specialist and NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Carol Stewart.
